About Patricia Moore
Patricia Moore fell in love with picture books when she taught preschool. The children's favorite author was Dr. Seuss. His books held their attention. When she became a parent, she would create stories for her children. That started her writing picture books for children. Patricia has four picture books available on Amazon, and one coloring book. Her best known picture book is The Angel With One Wing.

Where and when did you first know that you wanted to become a writer?
I went to a talk given by a children's author and I left feeling confident that I could write a picture book.
How long did it take you to write your first novel?
I have not written a novel, but a picture book can be written in a few months. However, the revisions can take months, or even years.
Do you plan out your novels or just start writing?
I plan out my picture books before I start writing.
Have you ever read your book reviews/comments, and if yes, what did you think of them?
Yes, I've read my book reviews and I mostly agree with the reviewers. Sometimes I think they are off base.

Do you believe in writer’s block?
I think every writer has had writer's block at some time. Sometimes our personal lives get in the way of our writing.
What is the best purchase you’ve ever made as a writer?
I am glad that I joined S.C.B.W.I., a society of children's writers and illustrators. My critique group, which is very supportive of my writing, have all been members of S.C.B.W.I. Without S.C.B.W.I., I never would have known these women.
What does literary success mean to you?
When a child or adult's face lights up when they read my stories, that is success to me.
What’s your favourite self-editing technique?
Reading my work out loud.

What is your best piece of advice for aspiring writers?
Persist, persist, and persist! So many talented writers do not persist. I wonder what they could have accomplished.
Of all the books you've written, do you have a personal favourite? If yes, which book, and why?
My favorite book is The Angel With One Wing. It went through a lot of revisions to be the picture book that it is now, and readers seem to prefer it to my other picture books.
What is the coolest experience you've ever had as a writer?
Going to the S.C.B.W.I. conference in Los Angeles. The people there were wonderful and encouraging.
What time of day do you prefer to write?
I write mostly at night.

Do you need to feel emotions strongly to become a good writer?
For me, personally, I need to feel connected to the characters in my picture books.
Do you research your books before you begin writing?
Yes. The research can take months.
If you weren't a writer, what job would you like to have?
I can't imagine any other job besides being a writer. At one time, I wanted to be an archeologist, but lost interest after I went on a dig.
Do you weave personal experience into your writing?
Yes. My upcoming book, La Toya's Downtown Day, is loosely based on my experiences with my mother.
