WINNER: 50,000 Words of Free Copy Editing!

Earlier this year, if you were following me on Twitter, you might remember that I ran a competition for one lucky winner to receive 50,000 words of free copy editing.

bryony leah, freelance editor, freelance copyeditor, affordable book editing services, freelance proofreader, affordable book editor, romance editor, copyeditor, uk editor, freelance editor, book editor, amazon editor, kindle editor, young adult editor, affordable editor

The winner of that competition was Meghan Tomlinson of @ElusiveStory, and here's what she had to say about her copy edit:

"Last spring, I won a free copyedit of 50K words from Bryony Leah. After receiving back my MS, I was thoroughly impressed with Bryony's edits.

When I submitted the first 50K from my fantasy novel, I was confident there wouldn't be much to correct or tweak. I had edited it several times, along with five beta readers. I thought it was very polished, but Bryony found room for improvement. With a deft hand, she made tweaks to my prose for clarity and corrected grammatical mistakes that had snuck through or that I was oblivious to breaking. She also offered me some insightful and helpful general comments about what she had read.

On top of that, she was completely professional in her communications with me and easy to work with. Before starting to edit, she asked me questions to find out how I wanted my MS edited.

If you're looking for a copyeditor or proofreader, I would highly recommend her!"

Thank you for the very kind words, Meghan!

I'm a little guilty of being over-enthusiastic about nearly all of the books I work on, but I can honestly say that Meghan's was well deserving of the enthusiasm. I could tell immediately, just from reading the first chapter when she sent her manuscript through, that there's real talent embedded in her craft, and it was clear to see that the writing had already been polished to such a high standard.

But there's always room for improvement in every novel (you ever hear the old adage, A book is never really finished...?) and my very favourite manuscripts to work on are those that challenge me to really hone in on the nitty-gritty while suspending me in a permanent state of awe. I seem to have edited a few like that recently (and please, keep them coming!). So, it was a true pleasure to get lost between the pages of Meghan's Fantasy novel, and I wish her every success for her writing career. I, for one, can't wait to finish reading the rest of the story!

If you'd like me to host another competition like this soon, please leave a comment at the end of this blog post, or get in touch with me on Twitter!
