AFFORDABLE BOOK EDITING SERVICES
Copy editing is the best choice if you'd like me to edit your manuscript and leave my comments and (constructive, not catty) criticisms in-line, while also paying close attention to your style, tone, and voice. I'll catch and fix any inconsistencies or spelling/grammatical errors along the way, ensuring your work aligns with industry-standard style guide expectations. (Chicago Manual for US fiction; New Hart's Rules for British fiction.)
You can expect to receive a clean manuscript with all comments, insertions, and deletions made in-line. I will also create a style sheet or work to any pre-written style sheet you may have.
Proofreading is the final step in preparing a manuscript for publication. I'll read through your work with absolute scrutiny, to check for any hard-to-see errors such as spelling mistakes, missing or misplaced punctuation, inconsistencies, or any other fault you wouldn't want to see in a published book, with a view to ensuring your manuscript aligns with industry-standard style guide expectations.
Due to the nature of the job (i.e. proofreading is concerned with the finer details rather than the concept, structure, or plot), I can proofread all genres, fiction and non-fiction.
(AKA HEAVY COPY EDITING)
Based on an initial assessment of your manuscript (during the sample edit stage), line editing may be recommended instead of copy editing. This is often the case when more in-depth editing is required to address awkward phrasing, clumsy sentence structure, major inconsistencies, unintentional tense switches, and difficulty maintaining voice, etc. Due to the extra time and attention this service requires, it carries a separate fee. You can expect all this in addition to the services carried out in a standard copyedit.
I'll read your manuscript in full and give you a detailed analysis of every element: style, plot, characterization, theme, tone, etc. in a personalized editorial letter, with detailed in-line comments so you can see exactly which parts of your novel need to shift or change.
After you've read my notes and revised your manuscript, I'll schedule you for a second read and provide my detailed thoughts on the changes you've made. You can expect my in-line comments and tracked edits on both the first and second read.
I can read your full manuscript (or part of it) and offer my advice and thoughts as in-line comments that will cover all the main storytelling elements such as style, plot, characterization, worldbuilding, theme, tone, etc., to guide your revisions and redrafts.
This service does not involve any level of editing and I will not alter your manuscript in any way. For my developmental editing service, please see above.
Got a project that doesn't quite fit into any of the listed categories? Maybe you're looking for a freelance editor to work with you on web content, marketing copy, or a non-fiction project? Need a query letter or synopsis edit? Want to hire me as a ghostwriter to write your book for you?
Don't be shy! I'm always happy to discuss work that falls outside the box, and I'll gladly quote a price that suits both of us. Please email me to discuss your editorial needs.
